To use the IMC J04E "Eukaryotic Gene Prediction by AUGUSTUS" feature, AUGUSTUS itself must be installed in advance (it is not bundled with the IMC installer). This feature is available in the IMC Premium OMICS Edition (PE).
On Windows (WSL2 + Ubuntu)
AUGUSTUS is run via a Linux distribution (Ubuntu is recommended) installed inside WSL2 (Windows Subsystem for Linux).
- If WSL is not yet installed, open PowerShell as Administrator and run:
wsl --install -d Ubuntu-20.04
Follow the on-screen instructions to set up a username and password. - Enter WSL:
wsl -d Ubuntu-20.04 - Install AUGUSTUS (you will be prompted for your password):
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y augustus augustus-data - Restart IMC after installation.
On macOS (Homebrew)
AUGUSTUS is installed via the Homebrew package manager.
- If Homebrew is not yet installed, follow the instructions at https://brew.sh.
- Run the following in Terminal (dependencies are installed automatically):
brew install augustus - Restart IMC after installation.
Available Species Models
Installed AUGUSTUS species models (--species=) are automatically detected when running the menu command and listed in the selection dialog. Any additional species models you install will be reflected automatically.
If AUGUSTUS Is Not Installed
If you run the menu command without AUGUSTUS installed, an error message "AUGUSTUS is not available..." will be displayed. In that case, please follow the installation steps above.
